A new recording featuring conductor Yorgos Ziavras and Ensemble Musikfabrik has been released as part of WEITER … ORCHESTRAL WORKS, an album dedicated to the music of German composer Robert HP Platz, published by Maria de Alvear World Edition.
The album includes Taormina Block: Container (2022), performed by the internationally acclaimed Ensemble Musikfabrik under the direction of Yorgos Ziavras, with oboist and English horn player Peter Veale and the SWR Experimentalstudio.
Commissioned by the ACHT BRÜCKEN | Musik für Köln festival with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung, Taormina Block: Container received its world premiere in 2022. The work reflects Platz’s distinctive compositional approach, exploring the relationship between musical structures, spatial organisation and the interaction of individual instrumental voices.
Comprising six interconnected compositions, Taormina Block: Container unfolds through a complex interplay of instrumental textures and spatial arrangements. Characteristic of Platz’s musical language is a form of structural polyphony in which independent musical processes coexist and interact, creating a multidimensional listening experience.
The recording brings together some of the leading interpreters of contemporary music, highlighting the close artistic dialogue between conductor, ensemble, soloist and electronics.
Released in 2026 by Maria de Alvear World Edition, WEITER … ORCHESTRAL WORKS offers an exploration of Robert HP Platz’s orchestral and ensemble writing.
